Alfa Romeo builds driver-focused Italian saloons, hatchbacks and SUVs, and its recent cars lean heavily on electronics: start-stop, adaptive dampers, driver aids and a battery sensor that watches charge levels constantly. That makes the battery type as important as its size. Our published range for the brand runs from about 60Ah to 90Ah in AGM and EFB, and the model year tells us which end you need.

Giulia and Stelvio batteries sit at the back
To help weight distribution, the Giulia carries its battery in the rear of the car rather than under the bonnet, and many Stelvio versions built on the same platform do the same. The bonnet has jump-start points, which leads some owners to assume the battery is there. The technician works from the boot, so clear it before we arrive and the job goes quicker.
Start-stop needs AGM or EFB
Recent Alfa Romeos stop the engine at traffic lights and restart it many times per journey, which a basic flooded battery cannot sustain. Replacing an AGM with a cheaper flooded unit often leads to start-stop dropping out, warning messages and a short battery life. We fit the same technology the car left the factory with.
Electrical faults that are really a weak battery
A tired battery in a modern Alfa rarely just fails to crank. More often the owner sees random warnings, an infotainment screen that reboots, or start-stop that never engages. In UAE heat these symptoms can appear within two or three years of fitting. A quick load test on site tells us whether the battery is the cause before anything is replaced.
Alfa Romeo models: what to know
- Giulia
- Battery mounted in the rear for balance; AGM with start-stop on most versions. The Quadrifoglio needs the higher-capacity unit.
- Stelvio
- SUV sharing the Giulia's platform; check the boot area first and expect an AGM battery on most cars.
- Tonale
- Compact SUV sold as a mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid; both still use a 12V battery for the car's electronics.
- Giulietta
- Hatchback with the battery under the bonnet; later cars with start-stop need EFB or AGM rather than flooded.
- MiTo
- Small three-door hatch with a compact battery; long periods parked in summer drain it quickly.
- 4C
- Lightweight mid-engined coupe often used occasionally; a maintainer between drives protects its small battery.

Questions, answered.
In the rear of the car, under the boot floor area, rather than in the engine bay. The terminals under the bonnet are only for jump-starting. The technician replaces it from the boot.
It is not recommended. Start-stop cars are built around AGM or EFB batteries, and a standard flooded unit usually disables start-stop and fails early in UAE heat.
Yes. The high-voltage battery drives the car, but a separate 12V battery runs the locks, screens and control units. We replace only the 12V one.
