The engine code decides the capacity

Our verified BMW data shows how closely capacity tracks the engine: 80Ah for a 330i or M3, 80Ah across the 520i to 530i, 90Ah for the X5 xDrive30i and xDrive40i, and 105Ah for the X5 xDrive50i, M50i and the whole X7 range. Fitting the smaller figure to save money shortens life badly in UAE summers.

Look in the boot, not the engine bay

Most BMW saloons and the larger X models carry the battery under the boot floor or behind a side panel, with only a positive jump post in the engine bay. That layout protects the battery from engine heat and helps weight balance. The technician needs clear access to the boot, so empty it before we arrive.

Registering the new battery

BMW's energy management adjusts charging to the battery's age, and it expects every replacement to be registered in the car. Skip that step and the car can overcharge the new battery as though it were old, shortening its life. We supply and fit the correct AGM battery; the registration is done with diagnostic equipment by a BMW specialist or dealer.

BMW models: what to know

3 Series: About 70Ah AGM for the 320i and 325i, 80Ah for the 330i, 340i and M3; boot-mounted on most generations.
5 Series: 80Ah AGM for the 520i to 530i, 90Ah for the 535i and 540i, and 95Ah for the M5.
7 Series: Flagship saloon with heavy comfort electronics: 95Ah AGM for the 740i, 105Ah for the 750i and M760i.
X5: 90Ah AGM for xDrive30i and xDrive40i; the V8 xDrive50i and M50i step up to 105Ah.
X7: Three-row SUV using a 105Ah AGM on both the xDrive40i and xDrive50i.
X3: Mid-size SUV taking an 80Ah AGM on the xDrive20i and xDrive30i.
i4: Electric Gran Coupe; we replace the 12V auxiliary battery only, never the high-voltage pack.

The car's energy management charges according to the battery's recorded age. Registering tells it a new battery is fitted. We fit the correct AGM; registration is done by a specialist with diagnostic tools.

It is not advisable. BMWs with start-stop and heavy electronics are built for AGM, and a flooded battery usually fails early and can trigger warnings.
