Start from the donor BMW
The battery tray, cable routing and energy management on an Alpina are inherited from its BMW base, while the engine is usually the most powerful variant of that range. In practice that points to the higher-capacity AGM option for the donor model. Send the Alpina model and year, and ideally the VIN, so we can identify the exact base car before we set off.
Diesel Alpinas are a different case
The D3, D5 and XD3 use twin-turbocharged diesel engines, and diesels demand more cranking current than petrol engines of similar size. They are unusual in the UAE and most arrived as personal imports. The label on the existing battery is the best reference, and the replacement must meet its cold-cranking figure rather than just its capacity.
Rarely driven, easily drained
Many Alpinas here are enthusiast cars kept alongside an everyday vehicle, so they spend long stretches in a garage. A high-specification battery that sits half-charged in summer heat loses capacity permanently. Owners of B7s and XB7s in particular should keep a conditioner connected between drives, because the comfort electronics draw power even when locked.
