Borgward is an old Bremen name revived in the 2010s with Chinese backing, when it launched a range of SUVs built in China: the BX5, BX6, BX7 and the electric BXi7. The revival did not last, and the brand's car operations wound down within a few years. With no active dealer network, there is often nobody to ask which battery a Borgward left the factory with. The label on the battery in the car is the reference we rely on: it gives the capacity, case size, terminal side and technology. Turbo SUVs with plenty of equipment
The BX5 and BX7 were sold with turbocharged petrol engines and generous equipment, including panoramic roofs, large screens and powered seats. In a UAE summer those loads, plus air conditioning running through long waits, put steady strain on the battery. A slow or hesitant start on a hot afternoon is usually the first sign that replacement is near.
The BXi7 still has a 12V battery
The BXi7 is fully electric, but like other EVs it keeps a conventional 12V battery to power its computers and connect the high-voltage system. If that small battery fails the car can appear completely dead. We replace the 12V battery only; the traction battery is outside our scope.
