DR Automobiles is an Italian company from Macchia d'Isernia in Molise, founded by Massimo Di Risio, that sells Chinese-built cars under its own badges after adapting and certifying them for Europe. Early models such as the DR1 and DR5 came from Chery, and later ranges have drawn on Chery, JAC and BAIC. A DR in the UAE almost certainly came from Europe with its owner, which is useful to know: it will usually carry a European-pattern battery rather than an Asian one.

What a DR typically takes

Bi-fuel cars with LPG equipment
Many DRs in Italy were sold as bi-fuel cars that run on petrol or LPG, with a gas tank in the boot and a separate gas controller and valves. That equipment depends on a steady supply voltage, so a tiring battery can show up first as rough changeovers between fuels or the car refusing to switch to gas. LPG filling is uncommon here, but the hardware is often still fitted and still draws power.
Know the donor model
Behind each DR badge is a Chinese model, and knowing which one speeds things up. The DR5, for example, was derived from the first Chery Tiggo, and the DR1 from a small Chery city car. If you know your car's origin, or can send the VIN from the registration, the technician can cross-check battery details against the original model before arriving.
European paperwork, Gulf summers
Italian handbooks and service records will list a battery chosen for a milder climate. That capacity is a sensible minimum, but a heat-rated maintenance-free unit of the same case size copes better with a car parked outdoors in Abu Dhabi. The terminals on European-pattern batteries sit low and flush, so the correct case matters for cable reach.
