GAZ, the Gorky Automobile Plant in Nizhny Novgorod, has built two very different kinds of vehicle that reach the UAE. One is the Volga, the big rear-drive sedan that served Soviet and Russian officials and taxi fleets for decades, now a nostalgic import. The other is the Gazelle light van and its smaller sibling, the Sobol, which remain workhorses across Russia and the former Soviet states. We treat them differently, because a garaged Volga and a delivery van wear out batteries in opposite ways.

What a GAZ typically takes
We do not publish a specification range for GAZ because we would be guessing. Send us the model and year on WhatsApp and we confirm the exact battery, the price and the arrival time in one message.
Volga sedans that sit for months
Most Volgas here are kept by collectors or by owners who brought them from home, and they may go weeks without turning a wheel. A parked car still draws a small current for its clock and alarm, and in a hot garage that slow drain deepens quickly. Once a lead-acid battery has been left completely flat a few times, it never recovers its full capacity. A battery isolator switch or a smart maintainer is a cheap way to protect a new one.
Gazelle vans and constant restarts
A Gazelle on a delivery round may be started twenty or thirty times a day, often with the cab fan running and body lights or a tail lift in use. The alternator rarely gets long enough between stops to refill the battery, especially in city traffic. For vans like this we suggest a heavy-duty unit at or above the original capacity, and a quick voltage check at every oil change, so a failing battery is caught before it costs a missed delivery.
Engines from several sources
Over the years GAZ has fitted Russian ZMZ and UMZ petrol engines, and some later Gazelle Business and Next vans use a Cummins 2.8-litre diesel. The Volga Siber was a different case again, built on tooling bought from Chrysler and powered by a 2.4-litre petrol engine. Starting demands vary with each, so we confirm the engine before choosing the battery rather than going by the badge on the grille.
GAZ models: what to know
- 3110
- Late-1990s Volga sedan with simple electrics; slow cranking after a spell in storage is the usual complaint.
- 31105
- The final classic-body Volga; some were built with a Chrysler 2.4 engine, so confirm which unit is fitted.
- Volga Siber
- Sedan based on a Chrysler platform; its battery follows that design rather than the older Volgas.
- Gazelle Business
- Updated Gazelle van and chassis cab; frequent stops and added body lighting drain it fast.
- Gazelle Next
- Newer cab design with more electronics; keep to the capacity marked on the fitted battery.
- Sobol Business
- Smaller van, sometimes with four-wheel drive; site work and dust call for clean, tight terminals.

Questions, answered.
Yes. We come to the depot, site or kerb where the van is parked, test the old battery and the charging voltage, and fit a replacement suited to delivery work. If you run several vans, we can arrange them in one visit.
Not always. A deeply flat battery sometimes takes a charge again, but repeated flattening in heat usually leaves it weak. We test it on site and tell you honestly whether it can be saved or should be replaced.
