i-stop needs a start-stop battery

Mazda's i-stop system turns the engine off at lights and restarts it when you release the brake. The battery has to support the cabin and restart the engine again and again, so i-stop models use EFB or AGM batteries. A flooded battery tends to trigger the i-stop warning light and stops the system working. Mazda's i-stop batteries often carry codes such as Q-85 or S-95 on the label; match that code or its equivalent.

i-ELOOP is not a second battery

Some Mazda6 and CX-5 models have i-ELOOP, which captures braking energy in a capacitor rather than a battery. The capacitor looks like a second battery to many owners but is a separate component that we do not replace. The newer CX-60 and CX-90 inline-six models add a 48V mild-hybrid system, while still relying on a 12V battery for starting the car's systems.

Rotary cars hate weak batteries

RX-8 and RX-7 owners know that a rotary engine started briefly and shut off cold can flood. A weak battery makes that far worse, because it cannot spin the engine fast enough to clear itself. If you run a rotary Mazda in the UAE, keep the battery in strong health and replace it at the first sign of slow cranking.

A flashing i-stop warning often points to a weak battery or the wrong type fitted. The system needs an EFB or AGM battery in good condition. We can test it on site.

If it has i-ELOOP, the extra unit is a capacitor for energy recovery, not a second battery. Only the 12V battery is replaced during a battery change.

A mid-to-large battery matched to the original, with EFB or AGM on i-stop versions. Send the year or a photo of the label and the technician brings the correct one.
