MG began as Morris Garages in Oxford in the 1920s and built British sports cars for decades. Today it belongs to China's SAIC, and its modern cars, the MG5 saloon, ZS and HS crossovers, RX5 and RX8 SUVs, are a familiar sight on UAE roads, bought as first cars, family cars and fleet vehicles. They are affordable to buy and run, and their batteries follow suit: mostly mid-size units of roughly 50 to 80Ah, with EFB or AGM on models that stop the engine at lights.

Know whether your MG has start-stop
Recent MG models increasingly come with engine start-stop, and those need an EFB or AGM battery that can handle constant restarting. Older and simpler versions use a conventional maintenance-free battery. The quickest check is the label on the current battery; if it says EFB or AGM, the replacement must match. A cheaper flooded battery in a start-stop MG will not last a UAE summer.
Ride-hailing and fleet MGs
The MG5 and ZS are popular with ride-hailing drivers and company fleets because of their low running costs. Those cars spend long hours idling with the air conditioning on, and start many times a day. That shortens battery life well below what a private owner sees. Drivers who depend on the car for income should have the battery tested every few months, especially before summer.
Electric MGs have a 12V battery too
The ZS EV, MG4 and other electric MGs rely on a small 12V battery to start the car's computers and connect the traction battery. If the car will not switch on or unlock despite range showing, the 12V battery is the prime suspect. We replace this battery only, never the high-voltage pack.

Not necessarily. A weak 12V battery can stop the car powering up even with range left. We test it on site and replace it if needed.
