Polestar began as Volvo's performance arm and is now a Swedish electric-car brand backed by Volvo and Geely, with its design base in Gothenburg. Its line-up is almost entirely electric: the Polestar 2 fastback, the Polestar 3 SUV and the Polestar 4 coupe-SUV, plus the limited-run Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid. What a Polestar typically takes

No slow crank to warn you
In a petrol car a failing battery usually announces itself with a sluggish start. A Polestar has no starter motor, so its 12V battery gives no such warning. It can seem fine one day and leave the car unable to unlock or power up the next. Warning messages about the 12V system, or the car being slow to wake, are worth acting on straight away.
Why the 12V battery works hard in an EV
The 12V battery in a Polestar supports the control units, screens and connectivity whenever the car is awake, including remote app requests, climate pre-conditioning and software updates. The car tops it up from the main battery, but in UAE summer heat, with frequent wake-ups while parked, the 12V battery still ages quickly. Testing it every year or so is sensible.
What we do and don't touch
We test and replace the 12V battery with the correct type and size, and leave the high-voltage battery and its systems alone; those are for Polestar service. The Polestar 1, as a hybrid with a petrol engine, also depends on healthy 12V power to start its systems.
