Know which low-voltage battery you have
Older Tesla models used a conventional 12V lead-acid or AGM battery, typically in the front trunk area, that we can test and replace on site. Later builds moved to a lithium-ion low-voltage battery, which is usually a Tesla service item. Send us the model and year, or check the car's service menu, and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.
Warnings come before failure
Teslas monitor the low-voltage battery closely and usually display a message asking for replacement well before it fails. Acting on that alert avoids the car refusing to unlock or wake. If the car is already unresponsive, the frunk can be opened with external power to reach the battery terminals.
Sentry Mode in summer heat
Sentry Mode, cabin overheat protection and constant connectivity keep a parked Tesla awake. In UAE summers that background load, plus heat, wears a low-voltage battery faster than in cooler climates. Owners who rely heavily on these features should expect the lead-acid 12V battery on older cars to need replacing sooner.
